// The Value of Curating Content – Enervision Media

Although writing a blog for your business will increase your social reach and improve your search engine optimization, not everyone has the skills or time to write entirely original content. This is where the practice of curating content can be valuable. To get your audience engaged does not mean having to provide entirely new ideas or groundbreaking insight – many people are very grateful to have someone sift through existing content on the web and pull together information from reliable sources.

By using some simple Google searches (or setting up your preferred search terms as Google Alerts) you can find interesting blogs, research reports and infographics that others have created. Check out the sources. Often a blogger will have information about themselves that substantiates their expertise, and the companies that put out infographics and research reports are easily vetted on the web. If a particular source frequently writes about an area you and your audience are interested in, check and see if they have an RSS feed or an e-newsletter that you can subscribe to.

Once you have identified some interesting information, simply write a blog that comments on that information with a link to the original source. You can explain why you think the information is of value and, perhaps, relate it to a personal story. You may find that only a piece of the content is really pertinent, and point the reader to that section and write about why you are impressed with what the writer had to say. In some cases, you may only agree in part with what the original writer has said so point out your areas of agreement and explain your areas of disagreement.

Writing is easier when you have a partner and the source that you quote and link to becomes that partner. Your reactions and insights actually serve to engage YOUR reader more deeply and feel a stronger connection to your blog.
