// Social Media Can Improve Your SEO: 5 Things You Can Do NOW to Make a Difference – Enervision Media

Search engines do look at what you are doing on social media and use your activity as part of their ranking algorithms.

  1. Improve the quality of your social followers. Search engines count the quality of your inbound links from other sites and they also count the quality of those that like and follow you on the social web. If you have people who are very active on social media with lots of likes and followers, their comments, shares and retweets will get the attention of search engine bots. Find some industry experts and cultivate their interest in you. Follow them on Twitter and retweet them. Like their Facebook page and comment constructively. Comment on their blog if they have one. If they have a group on LinkedIn, join it. If you don’t know who the movers and shakers are, use Twellow and drill down and find Twitter
accounts in your industry. Twellow ranks Twitter accounts with similar interests by number of followers. Take a look at some of the leaders and target them on Twitter and on their other social sites
  2. Create a blog. Search engines love fresh content and the easiest way to create fresh content is with a blog. To get the best benefits, have your blog integrated with your website. Talk to you web developer and have him or her integrate an off-the-shelf blog on your site. The cost should be low. If you have a site that is written using a content management system like WordPress, creating a blog on your site should be as easy as turning on a new feature. Once you start creating content, post teasers and links to your new blogs posts from all of your social sites. Don’t have the resources right now to create a blog, then create updates on your social sites that have links back to relevant pages on your website. Links into your site from any source get noticed by search engines!
  3. Make your site and your blog “sharable.” Use those little share plugins on your
website pages and your blog so that your readers can get the word out to their friends and create more links back to your site. They are simple to add to a website, and most blog software programs have them easily available.
  4. If your site has a sign-up feature, give users the option of signing in using their Facebook Account. Not only is this approach easier for a lot of users – one less user name and password to remember – but they can then share their interest in your site with their friends. In addition, the search engines notice this and increase your SEO ranking.
  5. Include Facebook Comments on your site. This is a little more work, but you can
integrate comments from your Facebook page into your website. It’s been confirmed that, if done correctly, search engines will treat this as new, quality content and count it towards your search ranking. Go to the Developers section on Facebook and look for the Plugins to get this feature and the loging feature for your site.
