| User Research Information is Power User research is about observing and talking to your end-user. However we do it - in the user’s own environment, in a lab, on a conference call, or looking at logs of statistical data – the more time we spend understanding your user, the closer we are to providing a satisfactory user experience, Website or application. What Kind of User Research is Right for You? Depending on your goals and budget, any of the following forms of user research may be of value: Research | Features | Benefits | Ethnographic (Field) Research | In-person observations of people in their own environment. | Provides a broad picture of current behaviors and potential needs you may have overlooked. A valuable aid to planning new functionality. | Live Usability Testing | Users are observed as they perform actual tasks on your site or application, followed by discussions or interviews. | Key to understanding how a design will work with users, and where problems exist with navigation or comprehension. | Remote Interviews | Telephone interviews or discussions elicit feedback from remote users with Web access. | Provides a range of user feedback on a new or existing design at a relatively low cost per user. | Online Surveys | Third party Web-based survey tools alloow us to collect quantitative user feedback. | Cost-effective for getting early user feedback on the comprehension, ease-of-use, or acceptability of different design approaches. |
